Welcome to my photography blog! Let's start with an introduction.

My name is Courtney Southern and I have loved taking photos since I was a little girl.

My earliest subjects tended to be stuffed animals, smurf figures, record collections, barbies....anything that I felt needed to be preserved with a snapshot. I think I documented everything I got for Christmas in 1982.

Later as a teenager my mother gave me my first Nikon and accompanying photography lessons. I spent hours walking around downtown Charlotte, NC trying to capture the nitty gritty city that it was in the 80s, I took photos for my high school yearbook and I got guest listed for my friend's punk shows as a photographer.

As my 2 kids were born and I moved to Winston-Salem, NC I got busy with life and motherhood my photography turned more towards documenting my family and our lives.

Now that my children are older I find myself in a renewed love affair with the art of photography. I get lost in looking at everything with a photographer's eye. I watch the way light paints a scene or object and look for emotion in different places. My photographic interests are wide ranging and I'm sometimes surprised at all the different places a powerful image can come from.

It brings me a lot of satisfaction to be able to create something that makes people smile. I hope you all enjoy.
